Taiwan Trip (29th Sept - 6th Oct 2012) - Day Five

Alright, here come Day Five of our Taiwan Trip!

Here are the direct links to the previous entries in case you missed them!

After touring outside Taipei for the past few days, we planned to stay in Taipei for the remaining days! It will be a waste if we went to other parts of Taiwan, but did not spend anytime in Taipei right!

So as planned on our itinerary, we went to the National Palace Museum 国立故宫博物馆 right after breakfast. It's pretty simple and easy to go as there quite a lot of buses going there from Shilin 士林 MRT station.

I have to say, one thing I really hate about the place is that there are too many tour groups. And when you want to see the exhibits, the whole tour group is there blocking your view and jamming the exhibits cause their tour guide is explaining the history to the group. And, you need to follow the TOUR ROUTE, and some exhibits only allows up to a certain number of people.

So sometimes it's really frustrating because we aren't with any tour groups!
At some points we told the staff off that we are not part of any tour group! So we'll just view those exhibits without any people, and once they come, we move on to the next exhibit.

All that said, let me blog this post proper. No photographs were allowed inside, so here are some shots we took outside before we entered.

The tickets!
If you are not a fan of Chinese History, then I think you will not like this place. Inside are exhibits of all the tools, pottery, paintings, which our ancestors used many centuries ago..

After that, we went to the Zhi Shan Garden 至善圆 which was just beside the museum. There was nothing much there, but it was quite a nice and quiet place though. Baby and I bought some fish food for NT10 to feed the fishes in the pond. They were all so greedy, when they see people coming, they would swim to the surface of the pond with their mouths wide open. It was quite amusing though.

After taking a couple of photos, we headed to the Shun Ye Museum of Formosan Aborigines 顺义台湾原住民博物馆 which was nearby. Here, there were alot of exhibits about the different tropes of Aborigines, or Yuan Zhu Min 原住民. It was a small museum, and there was barely anyone in the museum except for a few staff, but it was quite interesting learning about the culture of Aborigines.

After we bought out tickets, we realised we have not had our lunch, there was restaurant beside the museum so we decided to settle our lunch there before viewing the exhibits in the museum.

The restaurant was only managed by a couple - the husband and the wife. So the waiting time was kinda long. But the food was not bad, and the service was good. They were super friendly and kept apologizing to the customers for waiting so long.

It was late afternoon after we finished with the Shun Ye Museum, and we headed to our next destination, Chiang Kai-shek's Shilin Residence Park 士林官邸公圆. It was a lovely place! But it was a pity the residence that late C.K.S lived in was closed for the day, so we did not get the chance to step inside. The park closes at about 4.20pm from Mondays to Fridays, so we just quickly snapped a few photos while the announcement for all visitors to leave the park kept playing.

After that, the sky was turning dark and to avoid the peak hour rush, we left the park and proceeded to our last destination, Shilin Night Market 士林夜市! We tried some street food and shopped to our hearts content! We spent alot of time and money in Shilin Night Market cause it was so big and there were so many things!

How can we miss out! Big chicken chop 炸鸡排!
We headed back to our hotel close to 11pm, and we realised we have not taken dinner so we went into the 7-eleven which was just opposite our hotel to get some quick bites. I tell you, the convenience stores in Taipei are really "C-O-N-V-E-N-I-E-N-T"! You can just choose and buy the packed food, heat it up using the microwave and consume them!

Plus, they really sell all the groceries you'd need (for bigger stores)! Super convenient!
Now this is what I call, "IT'S A STORE AND MORE"!

The packed food we bought! Really yummy! And cheap too!
